Donettes vs Mini Donuts

Mmmm, donuuuuuts. There’s nothing like a good fresh donut. These aren’t them but at least resemble the spirit of a donut and if this is all you have available and you’re in a donut state of mind, you may find yourself giving one of these a shot.

Hostess:
I don’t really have a history with these but Ethan said he used to eat them when he was in High School and liked them. We were both surprised that these didn’t really taste like anything. The only thing “donuty” about these is the shape. The powdered sugar doesn’t even taste like sugar and the dough is just flavorless, dry cake.

Cafe W:
Walgreen’s version actually had some taste to it. The powdered sugar tasted sweet and the cake had a slight lemon flavor that complimented the sugar. These donuts were also not quite as dry as hostess and we found ourselves enjoying these more.

Wrap up:
We have to give it to Cafe W for making a donut that tastes like something, not really like a fresh donut but at least it’s something. Hostess just seemed void of anything and was all about texture. Dry, powdery texture. It’s interesting that so far Cafe W has been up to par or better than Hostess. I’d be interesting in trying more of Cafe W’s products in the future.

  1. I like the Hostess chocolate-coated ones. It’s really all about the chocolate coating, though. The donut is usually just as dry and tasteless. XD

  2. I used to live for the chocolate and/or coconut donettes…the chocolate coating was heavenly and the coconut coating was amazing
never liked the powdered sugar….probably because i wear black and dark shirts

  3. Hey, just wanted to say from one Massachusetts snack lover to another, I love your blog, it’s very informative. Also glad to see we fall on the same side of the Cheez-It debate. I’d say this comparison needs some Freihofer’s love, as they do make decent mini-donuts. Unfortunately it’s tougher to get Freihofer’s out here in the Boston area than it was back home in Pittsfield.
Between these two, I’ve only had the hostess, and I’ve not been too enthused about them.

  4. I just tried the chocolate-covered version of the Hostess Donettes, and boy, they sure aren’t what I remember! They were completely tasteless, and the coating didn’t have any taste at all. It didn’t even faintly taste like chocolate, it was just a waxy-feeling coating.

  5. I haven’t tried this yet but I’ll definitely have a share of this one of this day. I’ll probably bring a girl friend. Thanks for sharing this!

  6. I believe everything published made a bunch of sense.
But, whhat about this? what if you were too create a awesome headline?
I ain’t suggesting yyour content isn’t solid., but suppose you added something that grabbed people’s
attention? I mean Donnettes vs Mini Donuts | is kinda vanilla.
You might glance at Yahoo’s home page and note how they
write article titles to get viewers to click. You
might add a video or a related picture or two to grab readers interested about
what you’ve got too say.Just my opinion, it would bring your posts a little livelier.
